Is it ADHD? Anxiety? Or Something Else?

It’s hard watching your child struggle and not knowing why.

It may feel like trying to solve a puzzle when some of the pieces are missing.

Common Signs Parents Notice:

  • Homework takes hours and ends in frustration

  • Teachers see one thing at school, while you see another at home

  • Emotions run high and spiral quickly

  • Everyday routine feel like uphill battles

  • Your child is bright and creative, but often misunderstood

You’ve wondered if it’s ADHD, anxiety, or just “normal kid stuff.”

The constant guessing wears you down. You deserve clear answers.

This isn’t a full neuropsychological evaluation (that’s a different specialty).

It’s a targeted process designed to clarify ADHD-related concerns.

If ADHD is confirmed, you’ll leave with a clear report, next steps, and a plan for moving forward.

If results point to something more complex, I’ll connect you with trusted neuropsychology specialists for deeper testing.

Either way, you’ll walk away with clarity and direction - not endless guessing.

How an ADHD Assessment Helps Your Child (and You)

An ADHD assessment doesn't give you a label — it gives you clarity and a path forward.

✔️ Clear answers you can trust

✔️ A written report to share with school or doctors

✔️ Actionable next steps at home and in class

✔️ Confidence in how to help your child

✔️ Validation — your child isn’t “lazy,” just wired differently

The ADHD Assessment Process

1. Initial Intake Session
We’ll talk through your child’s history, current concerns, and what you hope to learn.

2. Parent & Teacher Rater Forms
After the intake, you’ll receive rating forms for you and your child’s teacher. These need to be completed and returned 2–3 days before the assessment session.

3. Assessment Session (2–3 weeks later)
I’ll meet with your child to complete their portion of the assessment in a supportive, kid-friendly way.

4. Scoring & Report Writing
I enter all results into Q-global, a scoring system that minimizes human error. Then, I carefully analyze the results and write a clear, thorough report.

5. Results Review Session (3–4 weeks later)
We’ll go over the results, what they mean, and possible next steps. If this session is scheduled too soon, I’ll reschedule to allow enough time for accurate scoring and report preparation.

6. (Only When ADHD Is Not Confirmed)

If the results don’t support an ADHD diagnosis, we’ll talk through what this means and your options. This may include ongoing counseling for parent and child, a referral to a psychiatrist for medication evaluation, or a referral for a full neuropsychological evaluation. I’ll also answer your questions so you can feel confident about next steps.

7. Final Report Delivery
After our review, you’ll receive your written report by email. You can share it with your child’s school, pediatrician, or other providers to guide support and treatment.

Who Will Benefit Most From an ADHD Assessment With Me

✔ Kids and teens (ages 6–18) in PA struggling with focus, attention, impulsivity, or emotional regulation that often gets mistaken for ‘behavior issues’
✔ Parents who want clear answers without months on a waitlist
✔ Families who need a written report for school or doctor
✔ Parents looking for next-step recommendations (school support, therapy, referrals)

Who Might Want To Consider a Different Type of Evaluation

✘ Families needing a full neuropsychological evaluation (different specialty)
✘ Parents only seeking medication management (requires a psychiatrist)
✘ Crisis or emergency situations requiring immediate support

✘ Kids and teens who cannot engage online and need an in-person assessment
✘ Kids outside ages 6–18 or families outside Pennsylvania

💡 Not sure if your child could participate online? Let’s talk it through.

Together we’ll decide if my strategies and tools would be a good fit.

Questions You Might Be Asking

How is this different from a full neuropsychological evaluation?

A neuropsych eval is much broader and tests multiple areas of functioning (IQ, memory, processing, etc.). My ADHD assessment focuses specifically on confirming or ruling out ADHD. If the results suggest something more complex, I’ll connect you with trusted neuropsychologists for further testing

Will this assessment be accepted by my child’s school or doctor?

It should.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I meet the requirements set by Multi-Health Systems (MHS) — the developer and publisher of the Conners 4 assessment — to administer, score, analyze, and report on results. Most schools and doctors accept this documentation to support accommodations or inform treatment. However, some teams may require the report to come from a psychologist or physician. It’s always best to check with your child’s school or provider first to confirm their requirements.

Will insurance cover the ADHD assessment?

I don’t work directly with insurance companies. However, you may be able to get out-of-network reimbursement for the intake and final review sessions. I partner with Mentaya, which offers a free benefits checker to see if your plan qualifies. The assessment session itself is not covered by insurance and will be an out-of-pocket fee.

How long does the whole process take?

From start to finish, most families complete the process in about 6–8 weeks. This allows time for parent/teacher forms, the assessment session, scoring, and your results review.

What if ADHD is not confirmed?

We’ll still go over the results together. You’ll leave with clarity, recommendations, and referrals for next steps — whether that’s therapy, psychiatry, or a full neuropsych evaluation.

My child struggles to stay engaged online. Will this still work?

Many kids surprise their parents with how well they engage in this setting! I use strategies and tools designed to make the process supportive and kid-friendly. If you’re unsure, let’s talk about whether online assessment would be a good fit for your child.

Is emotional regulation part of ADHD?

Yes.

While most people think of ADHD as only about focus or hyperactivity, emotional regulation is often a big part of it. Kids with ADHD may feel emotions more intensely and have a harder time calming down once upset. Unfortunately, this is often misunderstood as “bad behavior” instead of a sign of ADHD. An assessment can help clarify whether emotional regulation struggles are connected to ADHD.
